A New York-based collector whose passion for French wines began thirty years ago when he interned in a Parisian wine shop. Mr.
Finkel began collecting in earnest in the late 1980s, frequenting wine auctions and attending classes and seminars on wine tasting.
Always trying to combine his passion for wine and charitable interests, he intiated the earliest annual wine auctions for New York
Cares. As a member of the Board of the University Settlement in New York City, he hosts an annual wine dinner at Christies.
Jim Finkel has been a judge for Business Traveler magazine's annual airline wine survey. He was a co-founder of the Tasting Room
restaurant and wine bar, specializing in American varietal wines. Mr. Finkel currently serves on the Wine Committee of the University
Club in New York City, and mounts annual historical wine dinners (Napoleon, Thomas Jefferson) there.
In addition, Mr. Finkel organizes and participates in a variety of wine tasting events and dinners. He is a Chevalier du Tastevin
(initiated at the Clos Vougeot), a Commandeur de Bordeaux and a Commanderie des Costes du Rhone (of both in the
sous-Commanderies de New York). He is an active wine collector, with a focus on older vintages, predominantly Burgundy and
Bordeaux. He has a deep interest in wine literature and writings emphasizing natural and traditional wine-making techniques.
